Jamaica, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands secure wins on 2nd day of the Centrobasket

ST THOMAS (Women's Centrobasket Championship 2017) – Day 2 of the Women’s Centrobasket Championships handed victories to Jamaica, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Jamaica leveled its record at 1-1 after a 64-48 win over Bahamas. The team from Jamaica won the first half go the game with a 4-point difference, but it was in the third quarter that the team took it a step further with a 16-8 quarter, to secure the win. Jamaica shot for a 43% from the field and won the rebounding battle 41-34. Yanique Gordon was the top performer for the Jamaicans with a 16-point and 10-rebound "double-double".

Puerto Rico expanded its perfect record to 2-0 after an 87-55 win over Guatemala. The Puerto Ricans dominated from the get-go with a 19-12 first quarter. The team coached by Jerry Batista bet on the mid-range, and kept producing for its biggest lead of 39 points. Pamela Rosado was once again the leading voice in for Puerto Rico with an efficiency of +18, that translated to 13 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

Virgin Islands remains perfect after a 63-55 win over Mexico. Virgin Islands escaped to an early lead and never let-go from the lead on the scoreboard, after a 20-12 first quarter. Mexico discounted from the difference, but Virgin Islands kept adding to the difference and secured the win. Virgin Islands dominated the boards 42-28 and shot for a 46% from the field. Imani Tate was the top performer for the Virgin Islands with 13 points and 9 rebounds for a 21+ efficiency.

On the 3rd day of the Women’s Centrobasket Championship, Jamaica will take on Guatemala, Puerto Rico will face Mexico and the Virgin Islands will take on Bahamas.

The top-three teams from the Women’s Centrobasket Championship will qualify to the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup.
