Flamengo sink game-winner, eliminate UdeC

RIO DE JANEIRO (Brazil) - Flamengo only led for 47 seconds, but that was enough time for them to come out on top with an 88-86 win to eliminate UdeC from the 2022-23 Basketball Champions League Americas.

Flamengo got off to a slow start in the first 10 minutes, only making 1-of-10 three-pointers and UdeC also capitalized on Flamengo's 6 turnovers, scoring 10 points off of them.

UdeC had balanced scoring at halftime, as eight players scored at least 3 points, as they held a 44-32 lead heading into the second half.

Flamengo battled back to get the score to 74-70 and from that point, the next few minutes of the fourth quarter saw little runs made by each team. Then, Flamengo went on a 13-3 run in the final three minutes to close the game and complete the comeback after trailing by as many as 21 points.

The last points came from the game-winning putback after an offensive rebound by Gabriel Galvanini.

Galvanini came through for Flamengo with an 18-point, 12-rebound double-double as well as 2 steals. The 24-year-old forward shot 8-of-17 from the field.

Ricardo Fischer nearly missed a double-double with a team-high 19 points and 8 rebounds, while Martin Cuello and Nicolas Aguirre each scored 15 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and the two players also combined to make six of the team's 10 total made three-pointers.

Cuello had the highest efficiency for Flamengo (21), followed by Aguirre (20).

Jerry Evans Jr. and Miles Bowman Jr. led the way for UdeC. Evans finished with a game-high 23 points along with 6 rebounds for a 24 efficiency (also a game-high), while Bowman recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Flamengo's bench came through and outscored UdeC's 30-11, with Aguirre scoring half of those points.

The win by Flamengo means that there won't be a Game 3 and the Brazilian club have advanced to the Semifinals where they will face Minas, another team from Brazil.
