A day with Argentine-Brazilian matches

MIAMI (United States) - The second window’s first day went by for Groups C and D, and today will be a day with Argentine-Brazilian encounters. Also, the main appeal is that all four teams are candidates for the title. In Buenos Aires, San Lorenzo will face Franca, whereas in Belo Horizonte, Flamengo will play against Instituto de Córdoba.

Day: 3/8. Local time: 8:10pm. TV: DIRECTV Sports and DAZN.
Referees: Andrés Gastón Bartel Maina (Uruguay), Carlos Andrés Peralta Ortega (Ecuador) y Nicolás Daniel Flores Avalos (Paraguay).
Stadium: Obras Sanitarias, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

San Lorenzo showed off its usual character in the important moments of the match and was able to take home a great victory against Obras Sanitarias (87-73), but it won’t settle for that. Silvio Santander’s team wants a victory tonight against Franca, from Brazil, to ensure a first place and get into the tournament’s quarterfinals. “Little by little, we’re finding our team. There are good connections and San Lorenzo has gotten used to winning a lot,” said the “Ciclón’s” coach.

As for Franca, it arrives to Buenos Aires after a first window where it was justly defeated by San Lorenzo (73-68) and where it beat Obras (93-88). The Brazilian team is not doing well in the NBB (Novo Basquete Brasil – Brazil’s national basketball league), it’s in tenth place with a 12-13 record, but it’s always a protagonist in the international scene, therefore this window is fundamental to fight for a qualification and for reaching the playoffs.

Day: 3/8. Local time: 5:40pm. TV: DIRECTV Sports and DAZN.
Referees: Jorge Vázquez (Puerto Rico), Carlos Andrés Vélez Londono (Colombia) and Kristian Páez Arteaga (Ecuador).
Stadium: Arena Minas Tenis Clube, Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

In the other match of the day, in Belo Horizonte, Flamengo will face Instituto. In the first window, they could not play, because of the health protocol put in place due to some COVID cases in the Argentinian team. That means that the Brazilian team, current runner-up of the tournament, only played one match, which they won against Minas Tenis (79-69).

The surprise of the tournament was Instituto, without Sebastián Ginóbili as head coach, which won an amazing match against Minas in the opening of this second window. The team now led by Gustavo Peirone beat the locals 84-81, and made the zone even tighter, and so everything will be defined in window three, to be played in Ángel Sandrín stadium in Cordoba, giving Instituto home advantage.
