Quimsa advance after putting away determined Mogi das Cruzes

SANTIAGO DEL ESTERO (Argentina) - Quimsa opened up a big early lead on Sunday against Mogi das Cruzes, only to see it evaporate.

The Argentinian outfit recovered, though, and prevailed, 96-83, to book its place in the Semi-Finals of the Basketball Champions League Americas. Quimsa had won the opening game of the series in Brazil, 90-84.

Brandon Robinson finished with 13 points, 11 assists and seven rebounds for Quimsa, who will take on fellow Argentinians San Lorenzo, or Franca, in the Semi-Finals. Those two clubs meet in a deciding third game of their Quarter-Final showdown on Monday in Buenos Aires.

The Santiagueños put their fans through the whole myriad of emotions against Mogi. They raced into an early 17-4 advantage and appeared to be on their way to a decisive win, yet didn't deliver a knockout punch.

The Brazilian club fought back and even led by as many as six points in the second quarter, at 28-22, after a layup by Gustavo Ceccato Ruiz.

Robinson did a little bit of everything to help Quimsa sweep Mogi das Cruzes

Quimsa tightened up defensively and reacted. Robinson's two free-throws put them back in front to stay at 32-31, although the contest remained close at half-time, with Quimsa only leading 43-41.

Leo Mainoldi set the tone for a strong third quarter for Quimsa by hitting back-to-back three-pointers at the start of the frame. The home side outscored Mogi, 27-22, in the quarter for a 70-63 advantage.

At the start of the fourth, Nicolas Copello scored with a put-back off an offensive rebound before Evan Ravenel drilled a three-pointer to make it 75-63.

With 6:15 remaining, the lead ballooned to 88-67 following a dunk by Tavario Miller and Quimsa cruised to victory.

Mogi were at times their own worst enemy. They turned the ball over 15 times, leading to 24 points for the home team.

For Quimsa, Pablo Gramajo connected on all five of his attempts from behind the arc for his team-high 15 points. He led a balanced attack that had six players in all in double digits scoring.

As a unit, Quimsa were 15 of 38 (39.5 percent) from deep.

Danilo Fuzaro had 22 points for Mogi with Lucas Santana contributing 16, which included four three-pointers.
