FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 European Pre-Qualifiers First Round seedings set

MUNICH (Germany) - The road to the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 is set to get underway with the seedings confirmed ahead of the draw for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 European Pre-Qualifiers First Round.

The draw will take place in Munich, Germany on Tuesday, August 8, and will be streamed live on the FIBA YouTube channel from 11:00 CET.


There will be 10 participating teams in the First Round as they split into three groups. Group A will contain four teams, while Groups B and C will include three teams each. Teams will play each other team in their group home and away in a round robin system.

The seedings for the draw are based on the FIBA World Ranking Men, presented by Nike, and are as follows:

Seed 1: Romania, Switzerland, Austria
Seed 2: Luxembourg, Kosovo, Armenia
Seed 3: Norway, Ireland, Albania
Seed 4: Azerbaijan

Armenia and Azerbaijan cannot be drawn into the same group, as per the decision of the Board of FIBA Europe.

The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Pre-Qualifiers First Round will be played across three windows on February 19-27, 2024, November 18-26, 2024 and February 17-25, 2025 with two gamedays in every window.

The three group winners alongside the best-ranked second placed team will advance to the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Pre-Qualifiers Second Round - which is to be played in the summer of 2025.
