Every record broken on the court at the World Cup

MIES (Switzerland) - Broken records.

That will be an enduring theme of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023.

Players, teams, and fans set a new standard of excellence at the sport's largest and most competitive national team tournament with several eye-popping marks.

Here are the numbers from Manila, Okinawa, and Jakarta that fans will still talk about for years to come.

17

That's how many assists Arturs Zagars dished out for Latvia in their last game of the tournament, the Fifth-Place game against Lithuania on  September 9. Zagars passed the legendary Toni Kukoc, who had 15 assists when Croatia defeated China, 105-73, at the 1994 World Cup in Toronto, and Carlik Jones, who had 15 just seven days earlier for South Sudan in their 101-78 victory over Angola.
(The 1994 World Cup was the first edition in which complete statistics have been recorded and maintained)

25

The number of consecutive World Cup games in which Serbia's Bogdan Bogdanovic has made at least one three-pointer. That's also how many World Cup games Bogdanovic has played! The streak began at the 2014 World Cup in Spain when he buried a three-ball against Egypt and he's continued to make it rain since.

44

The number of assists accumulated by Canada in a 128-73 win over Lebanon on August 27, including a game-high eight by Trae Bell-Haynes. The team from the Land of the Maple Leaf had equaled the previous high of 37 in a win over Jordan at the 2019 event in China. At that same World Cup, Serbia had also recorded 37 against the Philippines.

57

That's how many steals Spain's defensive talisman Rudy Fernandez now has in his World Cup career after adding five to the record of 52 he held before the start of the 2023 event. He didn't win the tournament for a third time, but he did add on to this record!

73

Bogdanovic's record number of three-pointers made in his dazzling World Cup career with Serbia, dating back to that very first appearance against Egypt in 2014.

224

The total number of points scored when Germany beat the USA on September 8, the most tallied in a World Cup Semi-Final. Germany edged USA, 113-111, in that mesmerizing contest and then defeated Serbia to reach the top of the podium at the World Cup for the first time.

38,115

The record number of spectators at a World Cup game in an indoor arena, which happened on August 25 when the Philippines hosted the Dominican Republic at the Philippine Arena. The previous record in an indoor arena had been 32,616 when the USA beat Russia in the 1994 World Cup Final at Toronto's SkyDome.
