John Jenkins fires USA to another win to complete perfect window

BARRANQUILLA (Colombia) - USA completed their two-game sweep in Window 4 of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Americas Qualifiers after putting on a shooting clinic in an emphatic 95-77 victory over Colombia on the road.

Colombia played with grit until the very end, outscoring USA 27-25 in the final quarter, but USA never wavered and held firm. This loss ended Colombia's three-game winning streak in World Cup Qualifiers after they defeated Chile and Brazil in Window 3 and Mexico in the first game of Window 4.

Colombia cut their deficit down to five points and got the score to 31-26 with a couple minutes left in the second quarter, but USA finished the first half strong on a 14-6 run behind four three-pointers, effectively putting the game out of reach.

John Jenkins once again shot the lights out, scoring 26 points on an efficient 8-of-14 from three-point, with three of them coming in the fourth quarter. His eight threes are the most by a USA player in the qualifiers so far.

DaQuan Jeffries and Langston Galloway also each chipped in 14 points, as Jeffries shot 4-of-7 from three-point and Galloway knocked down two threes of his own off the bench.

Similar to their first game of Window 4 against Uruguay, USA unleashed another onslaught from the three-point line, this time knocking down 17-of-34 shots from beyond the arc, while Colombia only converted 4-of-13 from three-point range. USA also had a +13 advantage in total rebounds (41-28).

Colombia came into this game averaging the most points per game in the paint (38.3) in the Americas Qualifiers and they continued that trend tonight with 42. The frontcourt duo of Juan Tello and Jaime Echenique combined for 18 points with all of those points coming in close around the basket.

USA are now 7-1 in Group F and have a two-game lead over Brazil, Mexico and Uruguay who all sit at 5-3, while Colombia fell to 3-5 in the group. USA and Colombia will meet again in the next window on November 14.

"I have great teammates that found me in positions. We haven't been together too long, but we've had great time to prepare for our sets and our plays. Coach [Jim] Boylen put us in great positions to play to our strengths and that's what happened tonight. I just followed the script and things went my way." - John Jenkins, USA
