Brazil's stars return as they seek to clinch World Cup berth at home

MIAMI (United States) – The Brazilian National Team announced its 16-man roster for the sixth and final window of the 2023 FIBA World Cup Americas Qualifiers.

Head coach Gustavo Conti keeps the same nucleus of players that won both games on the road during the previous two games and allowed them to improve to 7-3 and second place in Group F.

The squad will be led by veteran point guard Marcelinho Huertas, power forward Bruno Caboclo, guard Yago Santos, sharpshooters Vitor Benite and Leonardo Meindl and up-and-coming prospect Gui Santos, recently drafted by the Golden State Warriors and who's currently playing in the NBA G-League. Brazil will also rely on a good number of their domestic league and BCL America's stars like Georginho De Paula, Lucas Dias and Gabriel Galvanini, among others.

This is the roster:

Yago Santos Marcelinho Huertas Elinho Corazza Gui Deodato
Georginho De Paula Vitor Benite Leo Meindl Gui Santos
Bruno Caboclo Lucas Dias Rafael Mineiro Gabriel Galvanini
Marcio Santos Rafael Hettsheimeir Tim Seoares Lucas Mariano

Brazil will be looking to clinch their World Cup spot at home when they play against Puerto Rico on February 23rd and United States on the 26th. Both games will take play at the Ginásio Poliesportivo Arnão in Santa Cruz do Sul.

"It's a huge advantage. We'll work hard to replicate the results and performance from the last window. Playing at home is a positive, but we have to leave it all on the court," said Conti to the Brazilian Basketball Confederation's (CBB) communications department.
