Numbers to keep an eye in the decisive Window 3 of the African Qualifiers

ABIDJAN (Cote d'Ivoire) - The FIBA Basketball World Cup African Qualifiers has taught us that it's not an easy feat to establish records, but some players and teams dared to challenge the odds.

With 24 more games of the African Qualifiers set to take place from Friday, July 1 through to Sunday, July 3 across three African cities, we bring you some numbers to retain in the decisive Window 3.

Can those records be broken?

We need to go back to the start of FIBA's new competition in November 2017 and learn how some records were established.

Most points scored by a player (36)

On 1 July 2018, Jordan Nwora was a 19-year-old looking to find his space within a star-studded Nigerian squad.

But for Nwora to prove that he belonged within the D'Tigers fabric, he needed to bring his A-Game to make him a reference, and it didn't take long before he found his rhythm in a 93-53 demolition over Mali.

Nwora finished with 5-of-11 three-point shooting; he converted 7-of-8 free-throws to finish with 36 points, a World Cup African Qualifiers record.

Most 3-pt made by a player (7)

Last November Nigeria's Ike Diogu was one triple shy of a three-point record established by Rwanda's Kenneth Gasana.

On 24 February 2019, Kenneth Gasana set an African Qualifiers for most three-point record after converting 7-of-9 shots from beyond the arc to finish with 33 points although Rwanda lost to the Central African Republic 77-69.

Most rebounds by a player (20)

Last February, Senegal's Youssoupha Ndoye broke a record for most rebounds in a single game, which previously belonged to Central African Republic's Johan Grebongo (18).

Ndoye not only scored 17 points in Senegal's 75-57 win over Egypt, but he also grabbed 20 rebounds, the most any player has recorded in the African Qualifiers so far.

Most assists by a player (12)

On November 26, 2017, right at the start of the 2019 World Cup African Qualifiers, Chad's Asnal Noubaramadje dished out 12 assists to spark his country to a 85-61 triumph over Guinea in Yaounde, Cameroon.

Nigeria's Ben Uzoh finished with 11 dimes in a 79-71 defeat to Cape Verde in November 2021.

Most steals by a player (7)

Known for his quickness on both ends of the floor, Jean Jacques Nshobozwabyosenumukiza led Rwanda's defence with a tournament record 7 steals in a 77-69 defeat to the Central African Republic on February 24, 2019.

Last November, Angola's Childe Dundao finished with 6 steals in a 75-59 win over Guinea.

Most points scored by a team (116)

Cameroon hold the record for most points (116) scored in a single African Qualifiers game.

On November 25, 2017, Cameroon trounced Guinea 116-78.

Largest winning margin (54)

By beating Kenya 105-51, on February 26, 2022 in Dakar, Egypt established a record for the largest winning margin in the African Qualifiers.

Most assists by a team (33)

Cameroon hold the African Qualifiers record for most assists. The Lions finished with 33 assists in a 116-78 win over Guinea on November 25, 2017.

Most rebounds by a team (63)

DR Congo established a record for most rebounds in a single game. But despite their 63 rebounds, the Congolese lost to Morocco 61-58 on June 30, 2018.
