Packed venues and digital engagement in last Qualifiers window a magnificent showcase of national team potential before World Cup

MIES (Switzerland) - The 32-team field for this year's FIBA Basketball World Cup in China is now complete with 14 countries having snapping up the remaining spots during last month's sixth and final window of Qualifiers.

The fans turned out in big numbers once again to support their national teams in crucial games. In the Americas, for example, there was an 82% average arena occupancy - the highest average arena occupancy in the region since the Qualifiers that were staged there in November 2017. In Asia, 70% of the games were sold out while in Europe,  roaring crowds were a common feature at games, like the one between Latvia and Spain that had in Riga 10,000 spectators. 

A new Social Media milestone was also achieved with the World Cup Facebook page now reaching 3 million fans.

A whopping 5 million fans in total are now following the @FIBAWC accounts on Facebook, Weibo, Instagram and Twitter.

The total numbers achieved during whole 16 months of World Cup Qualifiers from November 2017 to February 2019:
- 80 countries
- 157 arenas
- 420 games
- 840 hours of TV broadcast
- 2,068 participating players
- 236,000 app downloads
- 1.6 million spectators
- 433 million video views
- 1.7 billion people reached
- 10 billion impressions on Social Media
