Nigeria and Tunisia become first teams to clinch China 2019 World Cup spots

RADES/LAGOS (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Qualifiers) - Nigeria and Tunisia became the first teams to qualify for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 in China after extending their unbeaten runs in the Second Round of the African Qualifiers with double-digit home wins on Saturday evening.

Both sides clinched qualification for China 2019 by improving to 8-0 records in their respective groups, with Tunisia easing to a 69-47 victory against Egypt and Nigeria beating the Central African Republic (CAF) 114-69 in a Group F contest a couple of hours later.

It was Nigeria's victory in Lagos that put both teams over the top, as it ensured that the D’Tigers cannot drop below second place in Group F's standings and also guaranteed that Tunisia's win tally, at worst, earns them qualification as the best third-place team in the same group.

There are three more tickets to play for in the African Qualifiers, with the continent delegating a total of five national teams to the first ever 32-team edition of FIBA's flagship competition.

The top two teams each from Groups E and F and the best third-placed team will advance to China 2019.
