Romania announce Markovski as head coach for World Cup Qualifiers

BUCHAREST (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 European Qualifiers) - Romania will be heading into the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 European Qualifiers under the supervision of Zare Markovski.

The 56-year-old specialist from the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia was confirmed as the new head coach of the Romanian national team, replacing Marcel Tenter as the man in charge.

Markovski and the Romanian Basketball Federation penned a deal until the end of the First Round of the European Qualifiers, with an automatic extension if the side advances to the Second Round.

This will not be the first international spell for the experienced specialist, who served as the head coach of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia national team between 1997 and 1999.

Romania have been drawn into Group D of the European Qualifiers, which also features Croatia, Italy and the Netherlands, with three of the teams progressing to the next stage.

Markovski will make his official debut as the head coach in a road game against Italy in Torino on November 24 before hosting the Netherlands in Cluj-Napoca on November 26.
