Kleber set to play for Germany in September Qualifiers

HAGEN (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 European Qualifiers) - Maxi Kleber is to play for Germany in the September European Qualifiers window against Estonia and Israel, the Wurzburg native has confirmed.

The 26-year-old made his bow in the Qualifiers at the end of June and beginning of July when Henrik Rodl's side won at home against Austria and then prevailed over Serbia on the road.

The results improved Germany to 6-0 in the First Round and put them within touching distance of a spot in next year's 32-team World Cup in China.

“THE TWO GAMES DURING THE LAST WINDOW WERE SPECIAL FOR ME BECAUSE I WASN'T ABLE TO BE THERE FOR A WHILE. WE HAVE A VERY GOOD TEAM AND I THINK WE CAN MAKE BASKETBALL BIGGER IN GERMANY.”- Maxi Kleber

After a 4-point, 6-rebound and 2-steal performance in an 85-63 triumph over Austria in Braunschweig, Kleber had 16 points and 7 rebounds in Germany's 88-81 win over Serbia in Novi Sad.

"I am pleased that we have found a solution together and that I can play for Germany during the window in September," said Kleber, a member of the Dallas Mavericks, to basketball.de.

"Even the two games during the last window were special for me because I wasn't able to be there for a while."

Kleber, who will start his second NBA season later this year with Dallas, had not suited up for Germany since the country's FIBA EuroBasket 2015 qualifying campaign.

"We have a very good team and I think we can make basketball bigger in Germany," he said.

Germany will face Estonia in Tallinn on September 13 and then host Israel on September 16 in Leipzig.
