Coach Bosnic fired up as Sweden announce squad ahead of World Cup Pre-Qualifiers

STOCKHOLM (FIBA Basketball World Cup European Pre-Qualifiers) - Sweden coach Vedran Bosnic is psyched up about leading the side into a hugely important August for basketball in the country.

The Swedes, who have just named a pool of 24 players that will be considered for national team duty at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 European Pre-Qualifiers, must finish in the top two in a Group A that also has Armenia, the Slovak Republic and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

That would allow them to play in the World Cup European Qualifiers, which tip off in November.

The team's leading scorer from last summer, Ludvig Hakanson, is among the 24.

Bosnic believes the Swedes have enough firepower to get the job done and earn a spot in the Qualifiers field.

"I look forward to continuing our long-term project with our young players," he said. "Everyone will give his all for Sweden and to represent the country in the best possible way in this World Cup Qualifier.

"We have to focus on ourselves and continue to build a real basketball team where everyone plays for each other. The Swedish basketball clubs should be proud of this young generation of players they have developed."

"I think we can achieve our goals and move on to the next round of the World Cup Qualifiers."

On the list is the bulk of the team that impressed last year when Sweden played hard and well but suffered four defeats in as many qualifying games for FIBA EuroBasket 2017.

Sweden's first Pre-Qualifiers game will be at home in Norrkoping on August 2 against Bosnia and Herzegovina, a team that beat the Scandinavian side twice last summer in FIBA EuroBasket qualifying by a combined five points.
