Second Asian Qualifiers Marketing and Communications workshop was a success

BEIRUT (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Asian Qualifiers) – The second FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Asian Qualifiers Marketing and Communications workshop proved to be a fruitful undertaking.

The two-day event was organized by FIBA's regional office in Asia and was held in Beirut, Lebanon from 17-18 April. The workshop was the second edition following a similar gathering that took place in February 2017 in preparation for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Asian Qualifiers.

The marketing and media departments of Asia's basketball federations were invited to come together in Beirut, Lebanon on 18 April for the one-day workshop that gave attendees the opportunity to listen to guest speakers from across the world of sport, as well as take in presentations from fellow federations.

Reviewing the marketing and communications matters from the first two windows of the Asian Qualifiers was one of the main discussion points in the workshop's agenda along with how to improve the delivery of games in the coming windows.

For Saliba Amash of the Jordan Basketball Federation (JBF), the workshop shed light on the intricacies of the marketing and communication aspects of the Asian Qualifiers.

"This workshop gave us a clearer idea of the marketing rights, sponsorship packaging, digital improvement and media operations," she said.

Syrian Basketball Federation (SBF) Secretary General Dani Zo Kafil echoed this sentiment, sharing how the fruits of the workshop will be brought back to his country and shared with the SBF.

"We’re glad to be part of this workshop," he said. "A lot was passed to us in these two days, and the aim now is to go back and implement."

Johannes Wohlert, the Marketing and Communications Manager from the Swedish Basketball Federation (SBBF), also presented how the Swedish Federation sold out 7,500 tickets in their February home game versus Turkey.

More workshops are expected in the future as the Asian Qualifiers will soon move into the second round as the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 nears.
