Quincy Davis returns to anchor Chinese Taipei at Asian Qualifiers
TAIPEI (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Asian Qualifiers) - Star center Quincy Davis will return to reinforce the Chinese Taipei national team at the Asian Qualifiers this month.
The 2.03m Davis missed being part of the Chinese Taipei national side a few months ago at the FIBA Asia Cup 2017 after being sidelined by injury, but he has recovered well enough to be named to the 24-man roster for the first Asian Qualifiers window. The naturalized slotman led Chinese Taipei with 18.5 points and 10.5 rebounds earlier this year when they won the East Asia Basketball Association Championship title for the first time ever. He is expected to anchor Taipei's frontline and be among their leaders on both ends of the floor.

Backing Davis up will be seasoned senior players like Tien Lei, Tsai Wen-Cheng, Tseng Wen-Ting, Chou Po-Chen and Yang Chin-Min, while the faces of the new generation - Chou Po-Hsun, Chou Yi-Hsiang, Liu Cheng, Chiang Yu-An and Chen Ying-Chun - are also projected to play big roles. On the other hand, old reliable Lin Chih-Chieh is curiously absent after being named to the preliminary pool a few weeks ago, which should be a clear indication that the Chinese Taipei Basketball Association (CTBA) are looking ahead and prioritizing the development of their rising stars.
Only seven players from the national team that saw action in Beirut for the FIBA Asia Cup this year were recalled to the national pool, and this seems like a clear sign that the CTBA are pulling out all the stops to get at least one win in the first window.
Chinese Taipei are in Group B with Australia, Japan, and the Philippines. They host the heavily favored Boomers at the Taipei Heping Basketball Gymnasium on 24 November before taking a trip to Manila to face the Philippines at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on 27 November.
