Uruguay makes the final cut for the second window of Americas Qualifiers

MONTEVIDEO (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019) – Marcelo Signorelli, head coach of  Uruguay, announced the final roster ahead of the qualifying window set to start on Friday, February 23rd.

Uruguay 12-player squad for Americas Qualifiers games against Argentina and Panama
Gustavo Barrera Bruno Fitipaldo Mathias Calfani Luciano Parodi
Juan Ducasse Esteban Batista Santiago Vidal Sebastian Vazquez
Gonzalo Iglesias Federico Pereiras Hernando Caceres Hatila Passos

Amongst those included in the final roster, Esteban Batista is the clear leader averaging 18.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game in the Uruguayan league. Additionally, Uruguay can count with Hatila Passos and Mathias Calfani, who had a great start with the team in the first window, in the painted area.

Bruno Fitipaldo seems as the first alternative from the perimeter even if he has a different role in his current club in Italy, Scandone Avellino, where he averages 8.3 points in 21.6 minutes. The Uruguayan maintains a high efficiency rate in European basketball averaging 59.5% from the two point area and 35.7% from three point area. Gustavo Barrera’s and Santiago Vidal’s secure hands, together with Luciano Parodi’s marksmanship will be key in that first match-up against Argentina.

The national team starts their trainings Sunday, February 18 at 18:30 in FUBB’s Training Center. The team’s second practice with open doors will be on Monday, February 19. Uruguay will also train Tuesday and Wednesday as well but behind closed doors.

The Uruguayans will have two road games on this FIBA Basketball World Cup Americas Qualifiers window, starting with the much-anticipated game against Argentina in Olavarria on Friday, February 23rd. Three days later the team will travel to Panamá to play in the Roberto Durán Arena.
