Luis Scola: "We played with attitude and that's why we won"

OLAVARRIA (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019) — Luis Scola, captain of the Argentine National Team, analyzed their victory against Paraguay in the fourth day of the FIBA Basketball World Cup Americas Qualifiers.

Luifa, as he is commonly known, scored 2 points against Paraguay, caught 3 rebounds and assisted. Meanwhile, in the encounter against Uruguay, he added 23 points as the game's outstanding scorer, and contributed 9 rebounds.

“We played well. It cost us a bit to get into the game, but in the second quarter we played very well. We didn’t play well in the first quarter; they started really focused and that's why it costs us. They were stronger than us. But in the second quarter we played much better, with more attitude, and that's why we won.”Luis Scola (ARG)Luis Scola (ARG)

The power forward for the Chinese league’s Shanxi Brave Dragons is the leader in efficiency with a 15.3 average; as well as in rebounds, with a 7.7 average per game; and second-best scorer, after Nicolás Brussino, with 15.7.

“I liked the second quarter. We knew that Paraguay is a team we must defeat and do it well; we had to do it and so we did. That's why I'm leaving (these Qualifiers) with the best feelings. But it’s obvious that there’s work to be done and we will do it,” said the forward.

As to what’s ahead in the second round, he assured: “Now it gets more challenging and let’s see how we prepare. For the next window, we’ll recover a couple of players that’ll be very good for the team.”

Furthermore, the #4 for the Argentine National Team talked about the retirement of Andrés Nocioni’s jersey: “Everyone knows what Chapu means to us, to basketball, to the National Team, and to all the players that were with him during all these years. He deserves this and more.”
