Yaounde and Luanda confirmed as Groups A and C host cities for World Cup Africa Qualifiers

ABIDJAN (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Qualifiers) - Yaounde and Luanda will respectively host Groups A and C of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 African Qualifiers, FIBA Africa announced on Monday.

From Friday November 24-26, Yaounde and Luanda will open FIBA's new competition System in Africa.

While the Cameroonian capital city of Yaounde will host Group A, which comprises of Cameroon, Guinea, South African and African champions Tunisia, Group C will see the Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt and Morocco go up against Angola in Luanda.

Host cities of Groups B and D, which gets underway in February, will be announced at a later date.

Over a four-year cycle from 2017 through 2021, national teams will play regular official games to qualify for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 and the FIBA Continental Cups 2021.  

And Africa will for the first time qualify five teams for FIBA's flagship event.

Salle Polyvalente de Sports de Yaounde - which hosted the FIBA Women's AfroBasket 2015 - will be the site of Group A, while Luanda emblematic Pavilhao Multiusos do Kilamba will host Group C.

The windows for the World Cup qualifiers will be November 20-28; February 19-27, June 25-July 3, September 10-18 and November 26-December 4 2018; and February 20-28 2019.

Under the new system, the top-three teams of each group will advance to the decisive 12-team round of the qualifiers, which will see national teams play home-and-away games, while the teams that finish bottom of their respective groups will be eliminated.
