Morais looks to home advantage for World Cup qualification hopes

LUANDA (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 African Qualifiers) - Named captain of Group E hosts Angola for the fifth window, seasoned shooting guard Carlos Morais has returned to the Angola squad as they bid to qualify for next year’s prestigious FIBA Basketball World Cup in China.

"IT IS ALWAYS A BLESSING BEING ABLE TO PLAY FOR THE NATIONAL TEAM AND BEING ABLE TO REPRESENT ANGOLA."- Morais

The 33-year old, who is based in Italy, missed out the June-July window of the World Cup Qualifiers, but Angola head coach Will Voigt has recalled him for his experience at a very crucial time for the most successful basketball team in Africa.

"It is always a blessing being able to play for the national team and being able to represent Angola," Morais said.

"As a team, we enjoy being with each other. We want to take the best out of this, winning all our three games is the goal and we are working hard to accomplish that."

Angola, who have 15 points sit second in Group E, open this window against Cameroon on Friday and will be looking to win all their three games to be sure of a place in China.

Morais, who has already played at two FIBA Basketball World Cups (2006 and 2010), is excited about the possibility of this being his last edition.

"I do not know how many more years I will play but for sure I want to be at the World Cup in China. Maybe to close or one more but I know that every basketball player wants to be there in the course of their career."

Here's Morais urging Angolan fans to show up at Kilamba arena.

To achieve this, Morais and his teammates will have to rely on their home support at the 12,000-seater Parvilhao do Kilamba in the outskirts of Luanda.

"I am excited about playing in front of the home fans. We expect a full house for all the three games and we want to be able to go and win."

A year ago in the first window, Angola won all three games at home and according to Morais, they will be seeking to replicate this form.
