Jungo, Domingos handed World Cup Qualifiers debuts as Angola begin rebuilding process

LUANDA (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 African Qualifiers) - Rookies Alexandre Joao Jungo and Gerson Domingos have been included in the final Angola 12-man roster ahead of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 African Qualifiers that tip off on Friday in the Angolan capital.

The move comes after newly appointed Angola head coach Will Voigt admitted that now is the time to begin the rebuilding process that will eventually see the squad embrace youthful players.

The 20-year old Jungo, who has been working his socks off in a squad full of experience, made the mark on the final day and could not hide his excitement that will see him make a debut in front of Angolan fans.

"I grew up watching players like Eduardo Mingas, Olimpio Cipriano and Carlos Morais so for me to be on the same team with them is a dream come true." - Jungo

Excited about playing at home, the 6ft7in forward wants to do a good job if given the chance to step on court and defend his country's pride.

In an interview with FIBA.basketball, Jungo said, "I grew up watching players like Eduardo Mingas, Olimpio Cipriano and Carlos Morais so for me to be on the same team with them is a dream come true. I feel very privileged and honored to be on the team."

At 21 years old, point guard Domingos will be leading Angola's back court in an attempt to help his side qualify for the Second Phase.

"I have worked so hard to be on the team and I do not take it for granted that I will be making my debut. We want to do well as a team and qualify especially because we are at home," Domingos emphasized.

Voigt also made sure to have in the team regular faces including guards Carlos Morais, Roberto Fortes, veteran Cipriano Olimpio, forwards Reggie Moore, Leonel Paulo and Yanick Moreira for experience in the "group of death".
