Which teams have already qualified for the upcoming FIBA Asia Cup?

JAKARTA (Indonesia) - The last three teams that will be booking tickets to Jakarta for the Asia Cup in July next year will be decided in the upcoming days. Between India, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Guam, and Chinese Taipei, it’s going to be exciting to see who claims those remaining spots.

Who are the 13 teams that are waiting to see who their remaining opponents will be? Here’s a quick reminder.

Jakarta is where all of the action will be. The passionate fans of Indonesia basketball will be able to root for the Indonesia national team going up against the best of Asia & Oceania as hosts of the event.

The Philippines and Korea, the top two teams of Group A in the Asia Cup Qualifiers, battled in two entertaining matchups. They will join Indonesia, who also played in Group A, among team contending for the Asia Cup.

China and Japan were busy in the recent Qualifiers window played in the Clark City bubble, and the results of those games allowed them to qualify for the main event. Both China (FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019) and Japan (Tokyo Olympic games) recently hosted major events, but for the Asia Cup, it’ll be their turn to be the visitors.

The qualification for teams in Group C were based on the games played to date, which meant that Australia and New Zealand were the two squads to move on forward. This will be both of the teams’ second appearance at the Asia Cup. The Boomers are the defending champions while the Tall Blacks went to the Semi-Finals in the previous run.

Group D of the Qualifiers saw the first two teams outside of hosts Indonesia punch their tickets to the Asia Cup. These two teams are Lebanon and Bahrain who both clinched qualification back in the February bubble earlier this year.

The most intensely contested group in the Asia Cup Qualifiers was Group E. The final verdict of which teams would qualify was not decided until the very last second. In the end, it was Iran and Syria who were able to hold on to those two top spots in the standings, though fans who were watching know how close of a race it was for all teams involved.

Finally, it is Jordan and Kazakhstan who were able to clinch Asia Cup qualification from Group F.

This results in a total of 13 teams that will be waiting to see how the events in the upcoming days unfold, as 5 teams compete for the remaining 3 spots.

India, Palestine, and Saudi Arabia will be playing in Jeddah from August 20-22 where 2 teams will end up qualifying. Later on August 26 and 28, Guam and Chinese Taipei will be playing in a two-game series. The winner will be decided by aggregate score and will be the final team to advance to the FIBA Asia Cup which will be played in July 2022.
