Six defending FIBA Asia Cup champions return for Boomer's 24-player qualifiers squad

MELBOURNE (Australia) - Australia have formally announced a talented 24-player squad up ahead for the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 qualifiers.

 

The list includes six players from the FIBA Asia Cup 2017  squad in Cameron Gliddon, Jason Cadee, Mitch Creek, Mitch McCarron, Todd Blanchfield, and Matthew Hodgson. Moreover, Creek and Gliddon are returning to action after being a part of the Boomers squad that made it to the Semi-Finals of the FIBA Basketball World Cup last year. Players that were on the World Cup team that are listed in the 24-player pool also includes Chris Goulding, David Barlow, and Nathan Sobey.

FIBA U18 Asian Championship 2018 winners Tamuri Wigness and Sam Froling are also named to the squad, giving the team promising prospects to build on for the future.

“We're fortunate to have so many talented players eager to step up whenever they have the chance to represent Australia,” said Will Weaver, the Sydney Kings head coach who will be leading the Boomers at the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 qualifiers as per Basketball Australia.

“It’s always a tremendous honour to be part of the Boomers program and we are excited for this group to start the journey of qualifying for the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup on home soil against New Zealand in Brisbane."

Australia will play their first qualifier game at home on 20 February 2020 at the Nissan Arena, Brisbane. They will then travel to play against Hong Kong on 23 February to close out the action in the first window.
