Quick start leads to second consecutive win for the Philippines over Thailand

MANAMA (Bahrain)  - The Philippines jumped out to a blazing start and held on to win their second matchup against Thailand in the Bahrain bubble, 93-69.

Gilas started the game with an 11-0 run that seemed to spoil the eventual outcome of the game. Dwight Ramos and Juan Gomez De Liaño continued to be brilliant for the Philippines from the get go, orchestrating crisp ball rotation that led to some sweet shooting. The Philippines shot 10-18 from beyond the three-point line at halftime, highlight by 3 threes from debutant Calvin Oftana.

They’d end the game with 16 threes in total, tied for 5th most in the Asia Cup Qualifiers so far.

Thailand made a good effort to rally and keep the score within striking distance in the first half,  but Gilas continued to push the pace and stretch the lead.

Chanatip Jakrawan had his best game yet in a Thailand jersey with a game-high 34 points to go with 12 rebounds, 2 blocks, and a steal. Wattana Suttisin was also a major contributor with 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Four players scored in double-digits for the Philippines led by the De Liaño brothers who combined for 33 points. Big brother Javi outshined Juan in this game with 19 points on 4-4 shooting from beyond the arc.

The win gives the Philippines a 3-0 record so far in the Asia Cup Qualifiers, while Thailand are still struggling with a winless record after 4 games played.
