How will teams qualify from upcoming Asia Cup 2021 Qualifying Tournaments?

JEDDAH & MANGILAO (Saudi Arabia & Guam) - There are three final spots left to fill at FIBA Asia Cup 2021. Five teams will be competing for those spots in the upcoming Qualifying Tournaments for third-ranked teams, which will be played in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and Mangilao, Guam.

Here’s how these teams will be able to qualify from their respective competitions!

The Qualifying Tournament in Jeddah, taking place from 20-22 August 2021, will have 3 teams - Saudi Arabia, Palestine, and India - battling for 2 tickets to Asia Cup 2021.

These teams will compete in a single-round robin format where the top two teams in the standings at the end of the Qualifying Tournament will advance to the Asia Cup.

The Qualifying Tournament in Mangilao, Guam will be played between 2 teams - Guam and Chinese Taipei. This Qualifying Tournament will be held from August 26-28.

These two teams will play in a two-game series where the winner is decided by aggregate score.

The series will be won by the team that either wins both games or has scored the most amount of points combined across both contests.

In this format, the two games will be considered as one game of an 80-minute duration.

If the score is tied at the end of the first game, there will be no overtime period. However, if the aggregated score of both games is tied, the second game will continue to be played in as many 5-minute overtime periods as needed to determine a victor.

The winner of the Qualifying Tournament will claim the final ticket to Asia Cup 2021.

The three teams that advance from these Qualifying Tournaments will join hosts Indonesia, Australia, Bahrain, China, Iran, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Lebanon, New Zealand, Philippines, and Syria to complete the 16 teams that will be competing in Jakarta in July 2022.
