Excitement fills up the air in Guam as loaded 24-player pool is announced

HAGATNA (Guam) - Guam national team’s 24-player pool for the upcoming first window of the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 Qualifiers has been announced by the Guam Basketball Confederation (GBC).

The list features the main core group of players that dominated the East Region Pre-Qualifiers including Earnest Ross, Curtis Washington, as well as the Wesley brothers, Tai, Russ, and Mekeli. The depth of the pool goes on with all-around guard Daren Hechanova and NCAA Division 1 standout with the UC Irvine Anteaters Jonathan Galloway.

The Asia Cup Qualifiers could also be an opportunity for youngsters like Takumi Simon, Tomas Calvo, and Michael Min to gain experience and develop to be the next wave of stars for Guam. The country is trying to rise up the ranks of basketball nations in Asia at a fast pace and these Asia Cup Qualifier games will give them a good opportunity for their players to hone their skills and talent.

Guam’s first game at the Asia Cup Qualifiers will be in Hong Kong on 20 February before they play their first home game on 23 February against New Zealand.
