Penultimate day of SEABA Championship 2017 yields more victories for Indonesia, Thailand and Philippines

MANILA (SEABA Championship 2017) - Day 6 of the SEABA Championship 2017 saw top teams Indonesia, Thailand and Philippines pull away with more wins.

Indonesia led the day off by easily disposing of Myanmar, 123-50, for their fifth win in a row. The Indons opened the game with a 13-point lead after the first quarter, and they never looked back, proceeding to register the huge win that kept them at the top spot. Naturalized player Jamarr Johnson and IBL MVP Arki Wisnu finally suited up for Indonesia after they were officially cleared, and they made their presence felt. Wisnu scored 7 points and had 5 steals in just 8 minutes of play, choosing to rest his injured right foot, while Johnson was dominant with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Myanmar, meanwhile, were paced by the dynamic duo of Aung Wana and Han Thein, who paired up for 28 points.

The next game was closer as Singapore pushed Thailand before falling short, 67-57. Singapore absorbed their fourth loss in five games, while the Thais ended their campaign at solo third place with a 4-2 slate.

Singapore and Thailand were neck-and-neck for most of this contest. The Thais led at the half, 38-34, and entered the fourth period leading, 59-51, but they were never really able to break the game wide open. The Singaporeans stuck for as long as they could, but they just could not make a big enough run in the fourth quarter to completely overhaul the deficit.

Delvin Goh was the brightest spot for Singapore with 10 points and 12 rebounds, while Chitchai Ananti recovered from a scoreless outing against the Philippines by scoring 17 points here. Kannut Samerjai also impressed for Thailand with 15 points, while big man Patiphan Klahan added a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double.

To end Day 6, Gilas Pilipinas made short work of Vietnam, 107-52. This was the home team's fifth win, and it kept them abreast of Indonesia at the peak of the team standings.

Vietnam were a game squad in this encounter, keeping within striking distance of Gilas Pilipinas for one whole quarter before, just like last night against Thailand, the Filipinos turned up the jets and broke the game open in the second period. Matthew Wright was the best player for the Philippines with 19 points on 5-of-7 three-point shooting, while reserve center Raymond Almazan scored 16 points on a perfect 7-of-7 shooting from the floor. Calvin Abueva also impressed with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals and a blocked shot. Vietnam, meanwhile, had just one guy score in double-figures, and that was Nguyen Thanh Nhan with 11 points.

On the final day of the tournament, Malaysia opens opposite Myanmar followed by Singapore facing Vietnam. In a virtual championship match, Indonesia take on mighty Philippines for the lone right to represent SEABA at the FIBA Asia Cup 2017 and Asian Qualifiers for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019.
