Kim SunHyung and Heo IlYoung will lead Korea in EABA Championship 2017

SEOUL (EABA Championship 2017) - Korea have named their 12-man national team for the East Asia Basketball Association (EABA) Championship 2017 that will be held in Nagano, Japan from 3-7 June.

Most of the players chosen for Korea's EABA 2017 national team coached by Hur Jae have been culled from KBL teams, but no players who saw action in the KBL Finals were picked. Hur Jae's son, Heo Hoon, is the only non-KBL player on the roster.

Coach Hur has called for the team's training camp to begin on 15 May 2017.

In the previous EABA Championship that was played in 2013, Korea finished at the top of the podium. Triple towers Kim JongKyu, Lee JongHyun and Kang SangJae were all part of that team even though they were all still in university. Kim and Lee are currently still recovering from injuries incurred during the KBL season, but they are both expected to be healthy when the EABA Championship starts.

Veteran international players Heo IlYoung and Kim SunHyung are expected to be the leaders of this relatively young team, who are grouped with Japan and Macau. China, Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong comprise the other group.

Only the top five teams of this competition will qualify for the FIBA Asia Cup 2017 that will be hosted in Beirut, Lebanon this coming August.
