FIBA Asia Champions Cup 2018 by the numbers

NONTHABURI (FIBA Asia Champions Cup 2018) – It’s only a few days left until tip off of the FIBA Asia Champions Cup 2018 and before we dive in to the action in Thailand, let’s break down some interesting facts and numbers.

20 – Games to be played at the FIBA Asia Champions Cup 2018 to determine who will be crowned the best basketball club in Asia.

3 – Number of teams who are returning to play in the FIBA Asia Champions Cup for a second consecutive year (Al-Riyadi, Mono Vampire Basketball Club, and Petrochimi). Also number of teams who will be making their first ever appearance (Alvark Tokyo, Meralco Bolts, SK Knights).

2 – Number of teams who didn’t play in the FIBA Asia Champions Cup last year, but participated in previous editions of the tournament. Pauian Archiland’s participation was more recent, playing back in 2016 and finished 6th. The Liaoning Flying Leopards (then known as the Liaoning Hunters) went to 4 FIBA Asia Champions Cup (then known as the ABC Champions Cup) championship games from 1988 to 1999 and won one title in 1990.

127 – Amount of points scored by Al-Riyadi against Mono Vampire in 2017, marking as the highest amount of points scored by a team in the FIBA Asia Champions Cup.

172 – Amount of points scored by Michael Singletary for the Mono Vampire Basketball Club in 2017. Singletary is also expected to play for Mono Vampire again this year.

1,400 – Capacity of Stadium29, located in Nonthaburi, Thailand. The venue has been busy this entire year, hosting the previous two qualification rounds of the FIBA Asia Champions Cup and the FIBA U18 Asian Championship.

75% - Ratio of Al-Riyadi making it to the championship round in the past four editions of the FIBA Asia Champions Cup. Of the three trips to the title games, Al-Riyadi has won it twice.

50 – Points scored by Sam Young of Al-Ahli against Barsy Atyrau, the highest single player scoring total in the FIBA Asia Champions Cup. Young put up 40 points against Pauian 6 days later, which was followed by 43 points on Petrochimi in another two days.

22 – Years since a clubs from either Korea, Philippines, Japan, Chinese-Taipei, or Thailand has won a FIBA Asia Champions Cup title. The last club among those countries to win it was Hapee Toothpaste from the Philippines. A club from Iran, China, and Lebanon has taken turns claiming the tournament championship in the past three renditions of the competition.
