Pauian deals devastating win over Pelita Jaya in opener
NONTHABURI (FIBA ASIA CHAMPIONS CUP 2018 EAST INTER-SUBZONE QUALIFICATIONS) - Pauian Archiland (TPE) got off to an early start to tipoff the FIBA Asia Champions Cup 2018 East Inter-Subzone Qualifications against Pelita Jaya (INA) and never looked back. The champions from Chinese-Taipei finished the game with a resounding 79-55 win, a crucial victory for their hopes of advancing to the Final 8 round of the FIBA Asia Champions Cup.
A jumpshot by Yao-Tsung Lin in the middle of the third quarter gave Pauian Archiland their biggest lead of the game at 61-26 but the game was in Pauian’s control from the start. Lin starred in this game, racking up game-highs of 19 points and 13 rebounds for his team. Coach I-Feng Yang was able to distribute minutes around evenly, giving enough time for Chin-Pang Lin to get an all-around 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists.
The victors did a good job of distributing the ball around with 23 of their 29 field goals made coming off of assists.
Pelita Jaya, on the other hand, had a rough start as they were unable to take care of the ball. Their 22 turnovers spelled their downfall, as it led to 19 points on the other end for Pauian. National Team guard Hardianus Lakudu came off the bench to put up a decent 10-point, 3-assist line, but the deficit was far too much to overcome for Coach Faisal Julius Ahmad’s squad.
Pauian will try to complete a sweep in this tournament when they go up against hosts Mono Vampire Basketball Club tomorrow at 6:20 PM (GMT +7). Pelita Jaya gets one day rest to regroup before getting an opportunity to keep their qualification hopes alive when they face Mono Vampire on Wednesday, August 1 at 6:20 PM (GMT +7).
