India "hungry for win" against Indonesia

BANGKOK, Thailand (FIBA Asia U18 Championship for Women 2016) - India may have not won a single game so far at FIBA Asia U18 Championship for Women 2016, yet, head coach Shiba Maggon is confident in her team's chances of winning the most important game in this championship against level I hopefuls Indonesia.

The South Asians lost all of their five games so far in the championship, but one game in particular had a negative impact on the morale of the team, the opening day loss to Thailand, admits Maggon.

“That game brought my girls down,” she said, “but I couldn’t allow that to go on. I told them there’s no pressure on them, whatsoever, and now they understand that, and the overall team morale is high again.”

India will face Indonesia later today in a crucial game which will decide the status of the team for the next FIBA Asia U18 Championship for Women edition. The Indonesians won all of their five Level II games so far and have looked pretty impressive in all of those 5 games.

Maggon acknowledges the strength of the opposition team, but also believes in her team’s chances to win and maintain Level I status.

“I followed Indonesia closely and they are a very good team,” said the coach. “I see it as a 50/50 game between the 2 of us. In the end, it will come down to who wants it more than the other.”

“We know Indonesia have good jump shots and we know their key players, especially their shooter Jovita Elizabeth. The strategy will mainly concentrate on these two details. Apart from that, it all depends now on my girl’s hunger for the win, and I know they are hungry for this particular win.”
