Day 3: India continue to roll as Kazakhstan and Sri Lanka score big wins

BENGALURU (FIBA U16 Women's Asia Championship 2017) - Day 3 in Division B saw India continue their unbeaten streak even as Kazakhstan and Sri Lanka both notched convincing wins.

Kazakhstan opened the day's action by totally outclassing Maldives, 114-10. Yuliya Marchenko had a wicked 14-point, 11-rebound double-double to lead the Kazakhs, who also drew 18 points from Dilbar Abbassova. This result gave Kazakhstan their first win of the tournament, landing them at second spot in Group B.

The second match saw Sri Lanka prevail over Nepal in a battle of SABA squads, 68-48. The Sri Lankans uncorked a 20-4 first quarter to stamp their class, and they never looked back. Leia Hamza topped the scoring for Sri Lanka with 13 points, while Thisari Hiniduma Kapuge and Liyaara HettiArachchi each tallied 12 points. The frontcourt duo of Pratikshya Magar and Roshani Shrestha paced Nepal with a combined 34 points.

To close the day, hosts India remained undefeated after they overpowered newcomers Iran, 97-53. This game started tight in the first quarter, where India found themselves ahead by only 8 points, but the home team broke the game open in the second period, outscoring the Iranians, 23-7. It was all India from there as they swept Group A. Vaishnavi Yadav unloaded 29 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals in a scintillating display for India, while Maryam Shirazi topped the scoring for Iran with 12 points.
