Uruguay release 14-man squad for FIBA AmeriCup 2022 Qualifiers

MONTEVIDEO (Uruguay) - Uruguay's coach Rubén Magnano announced 14 players that will be available to play against Paraguay and Panama for the FIBA AmeriCup 2022 Qualifiers.

"We had a number of variables due to the circumstances we are going through. We had an initial list of 24 players for the Uruguayan league dispute. All teams have similar issues since we will not be able to count on outside players. Uruguay has a number of young people playing in the league and that is beneficial for the National Team," said Magnano as his team gets ready for the next two games at Obras Sanitarias stadium.

"I believe a lot in the combination of young players with experienced players as a fact of contention. These windows are going to be an important opportunity for many young Uruguayan basketball players," explained the coach about this new knockout date that he will face with the players of the Uruguayan league.

Uruguay (2-0) will be part of Group B and they will face Paraguay (0-2) on the 27th, and Panama (2-0) on the 28th in Buenos Aires.

"Uruguay has begun to undergo a new project with players with a National Team commitment. When you decide to lead a team there are different variables, I had the desire to lead again and Edgardo Kogan's contract ended and a very important factor was the trust that the Uruguayan Federation always placed in me."

Edgardo Kogan, an assistant coach along with Javier Isis and Pablo Morales, said: "It is a great step for my career to work alongside Rubén. We are living in an atypical situation. Fortunately Uruguayan basketball was one of the first to return to activity in a pandemic. We believe that we are on a good path and betting on the work of Rubén and the players."

What happens in this window and the one in February will define the three best records in each group to advance to the AmeriCup 2022.
