Five players to watch in the second window of the AmeriCup 2022 Qualifiers

MIAMI (United States) - The matches of the second window of the AmeriCup 2022 Qualifiers are right around the corner. From November 27-30, we will enjoy interesting and emotional matches.

Several players will have to step up to guide their teams. Others will prove that they have what it takes to defend the colors of their country.

Here are five players to watch closely:

Braian Angola - Colombia

The shooting guard returns with the national team after failing to be in the first qualifying window. Angola is known for his versatility when it comes to scoring, so his presence gives Colombia another perspective on offense. The 26-year-old has just ended his contract with Partizan Belgrade, a Serbian club where he was not getting the expected playing time, but he will try to put his talents in the hands of coach Guillermo Moreno.

Máximo Fjellerup - Argentina

Argentina's new coach Gabriel Piccato structured a renewed new national team. Máximo Fjellerup, a 23-year-old forward, played in the 2019 FIBA World Cup along with Tayavek Galizzi and Agustín Caffaro. With his club, local league San Lorenzo de Almagro, Fjellerup is already showing that he is ready to take on great challenges by averaging 12.8 points (44% from the 3-point line) and 6.8 rebounds. We can expected he can have a similar performance, due to the experience he has been acquiring and the enormous improvement he has been showing on both sides of the court, mainly in his long-distance shooting.

Yago Mateus - Brazil

Yago Mateus will be in charge of managing the threads of the Amazonian team. In the 2019 FIBA World Cup he was fortunate to learn from leaders such as Marcelinho Huertas and Rafa Luz. With his performance in the first AmeriCup Qualifiers window and in Basketball Champions League Americas Finals with Flamengo, Yago is making it clear that he absorbed knowledge. The speed and anticipation of the powerful 21-year-old will serve as propellants for Brazil in defense and attack, in the duels against Panama and Paraguay in Group B.

Jasiel Rivero - Cuba

Jasiel Rivero's recent success in the Argentine league lead him to a Basketball Champions League Americas title. He's finishing his stint with San Pablo Burgos in the ACB of Spain, averaging 13.0 points and 5.8 rebounds. The 27-year-old from Havana is a dominant force in the inside game but can also pay off with his long-distance shot. Cuba will need all its deployment to be able to aspire to victory against the difficult squad of the Dominican Republic, even more so with the casualties it presents, including that of pivot Javier Justiz.

Ángel Delgado - Dominican Republic

Ángel Delgado is trying to show that he can still be a stronghold on his national team after a fleeting stint in the NBA. Now, he is assuming a substitute role in Estudiantes de Madrid in the ACB, where despite not putting up large numbers (3.8 points and 4.4 rebounds in 14 minutes) he has still been seen integrated and in good physical shape. These matches against the Virgin Islands and Cuba could serve as redemption for Delgado, who needs to regain the confidence of the past.
