Argentina's preselection for FIBA AmeriCup 2022 Qualifiers has some new faces
BUENOS AIRES (Argentina) - Coach Gabriel Piccato, recently appointed as Sergio Hernández's successor at the helm of the Argentina team for the AmeriCup 2022 Qualifiers, unveiled a list of 15 players shortlisted for the November matches.
Several of the new names have already made a good impression in the local league, others in the roster are more known such as Federico Aguerre, Agustín Caffaro, Máximo Fjellerup, Tayavek Gallizzi, Javier Saiz, Leonel Schattmann and José Vildoza.

Argentina is part of Group A and will face Chile, on the 27th, and Colombia, on the 28th.
The games will be held in Buenos Aires, but there won’t be a huge home advantage since the matches will be played under the bubble format due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We decided to put together a mixed list. On the one hand, with several emerging young people, we aim to open the door to the future. On the other, choosing players with more experience in strategic positions," explained coach Piccato to the communications department of the Argentine Basketball Confederation (CABB).
"The call for 15 is due to the fact that we are going through a scenario of great uncertainty and we try to anticipate issues that may limit our personnel during those days," added the 48-year-old coach.
In Group A, Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Venezuela, have a 1-1 record. What happens on this day will define the path to qualifying and will set up the tone for the following window in February.
The teams with the top three records in each group will advance to AmeriCup 2022.
