USA qualifies, the Semi-Final picture is complete

MONTEVIDEO (FIBA AmeriCup 2017) – USA closed the FIBA AmeriCup 2017 Semi-Final frame, after finishing Group C of the continental championship with a 3-0 record. On the Semi-Finals, USA will face the Virgin Islands and Mexico will take on Argentina, for the right to play on the FIBA AmeriCup 2017 Final.

USA qualified to the Semi-Finals of the FIBA AmeriCup 2017 with a 3-0 record, after defeating the Dominican Republic 72-56. Shooting for a 47% from the field the North Americans jumped to an early lead and never looked back. The Dominicans fought hard, but Jeff Van Gundy’s team kept a safe distance, with second opportunities and long rotations. Jameel Warnbey was the best for the USA with 13 points and 9 rebounds.

Uruguay ended its participation in the continental event with a 79-68 win over Panama, and the second position of the preliminary group played in Montevideo. With 46% efficiency from the field, the Uruguayans captured the advantage. Nothing changed; with four players scoring double digits and a magnificent Granger leading the way with 20 points, the team coached by Marcelo Signorelli secured the win and a ticket to the 2019 Pan American Games.

The FIBA AmeriCup 2017 Semi-Finals will be played on Cordoba, Argentina on September 2. USA will face the Virgin Islands and Argentina will face Mexico, for the right to play on the continental championship game on September 3.

The end of the Group Phase also defined the seven qualified teams to the Panamerican Games to be played next year in Lima, Peru.
