USA name 18-player preliminary list for 2016 FIBA Americas U18 Championship

COLORADO SPRINGS (FIBA Americas U18 Championship) – USA Basketball announced on Thursday its preliminary roster for the 2016 FIBA Americas U18 Championship. The continental contest will be played in Valdivia, Chile from July 19-23.

USA’s U18 National Team training camp will continue through June 18 at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Following a break, the 18 finalists will resume training July 11-15 in Houston, and the final 12-member team will be announced prior to the team departing for Chile.

Practices are being led by USA’s U18 National Team Coach Shaka Smart. He is being assisted by Kevin Ollie and Mark Turgeon.

At the FIBA Americas U18 Championship, USA will play at Group B along with Puerto Rico, Chile, and the Virgin Islands. Group B consists of Argentina, Dominican Republic, Brazil, and Canada.

The top two teams from each group will advance to the Semi-Finals. The winners will square off for the gold medal of the competition, while the losers will play for bronze. The remaining four teams will square off in the reclassification round.

USA will be defending the title won at the previous edition of the FIBA Americas U18 Championship played in 2014 in Colorado Springs, USA.
