USA win seventh gold medal at FIBA U16 Women's Americas Championship

YUCATAN (Mexico) - USA captured their fourth-straight title and seventh overall at the 2023 FIBA U16 Women's Americas Championship, downing Canada 79-59.

USA were held to their fewest points of the tournament thanks to Canada's defense, but USA also held Canada in check for their lowest point total. This was Canada's fourth consecutive silver medal at the event.

Canada hung around for a quarter and only trailed 19-12 before USA unleashed a 22-8 second quarter to take a 21-point lead into the locker room.

Jerzy Robinson exploded for 18 first-half points and was only two points behind Canada's first-half total. The 14-year-old dominated once again with a game-high 24 points along with 14 rebounds and 2 assists and shot 10-of-18 on her way to being named the tournament's MVP.

The Americans had two other players in double figures, including McKenna Woliczko (14 points) and Lanie Grant (11 points). Woliczko also added 9 rebounds (8 offensive) and 3 steals, while Grant had 5 rebounds, 2 assists and knocked down all three of the team's three-pointers.

Canada's Savannah Swords closed her tournament on a high note with 22 points and 4 rebounds, the only player to reach double figures in defeat.

USA had a +27 total rebounding margin, also having a 25-11 edge on the offensive glass which led to 29 second chance points. They also imposed their will inside, scoring 50 points in the paint.

USA capped off an impressive run at this year's competition with a 6-0 record and an astounding +401-point differential across those six games. Canada, meanwhile, finished with a record of 5-1.
