USA's Dillingham wins U16 MVP, headlines All-Star Five

XALAPA (Mexico) – Robert Dillingham showed out when it mattered most as the 6-foot-1, 16-year-old guard from the United States dropped 31 points on 9-of-19 shooting in the FIBA U16 Americas Championship Final vs. Argentina to win the Most Valuable Player award.

Dillingham’s dominant game came just one day after a 3-of-12 shooting performance vs. Canada in the semifinals. The guard also only scored in single figures in the United States’ Quarter-Finals matchup vs. Mexico, but he was a playmaking machine in the group stage.

The All-Star-5 team was also released following the conclusion of the event with Dillingham, Holland, Canada’s Mikkel Tyne, Dominican Republic’s Danny Carbuccia and Argentina’s Tiziano Prome earning honors.

Dillingham finished out averaging 15.7 points and 6.2 assists per game for the tournament, but Holland was more consistent throughout the entire event. The 6-foot-9 forward averaged the most points in the tournament (19 per game), shot a blistering 65.3% from the field and did this in only 21.5 minutes of action per outing.

Mikkel Tyne - Canada
A 5-foot-10, 16-year-old point guard – helped guide Canada to a third place finish behind his 15 points per game – which was fourth best in the U16 event. He shot 42.1% from beyond the arc and was sixth in assists at 5.2 per night.

Danny Carbuccia - Dominican Republic
At age 15, ran the show for the Dominican Republic at point guard with his defensive energy and playmaking abilities. Carbuccia averaged 12.7 points and 5.3 assists per game, but most importantly, he notched the third-most steals. While he turned the ball over 19 times, his effort helped the Dominican Republic finish in fourth.

Tiziano Prome - Argentina
Earned honors over his teammates Lucas Giovannetti and Juan Bocca and Puerto Rico’s Alejandro Aviles. The 16-year-old power forward averaged 12 points, grabbed seven rebounds and recorded one block per game. But what really stands out for Prome is his high efficiency rating (78) as he didn’t force shots and was a reliable threat on the interior.
