Slimane named on Tunisia's list for FIBA AfroBasket 2017 Qualifiers

TUNIS (FIBA AfroBasket 2017 Qualifiers) - Four years after last representing his country, Radhouane Slimane is back as Tunisia prepare for the FIBA AfroBasket 2017 Zone 1 Qualifiers next month.

In his last appearance with the Tunisian jersey, the 36-year-old small forward averaged 2.2 points as Tunisia fell to Egypt in the FIBA AfroBasket 2013 Quarter-Finals.

Now, newly appointed head coach Mario Palma is making sure to build a team of experienced players with 23-year-old guard Omar Abada as the youngest on the 14-player preliminary list.

London Olympian, Slimane is known for his long range shooting, which proved crucial for Tunisia's first-ever African title in 2011.

Both Michael Roll and Salah Mejri - two influential players in Tunisia's FIBA AfroBasket 2015 - are expected to join the team if the former African champions qualify for Brazzaville.

TunisiaLibya, Morocco and Algeria will be battling it out for the two tickets on offer for Zone 1 teams for the FIBA AfroBasket 2017 Final Round in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo (19-30 August).

The first leg of the qualifier will take place in the Algerian capital of Algiers from 16-18 March while the second leg is set to place in Tunisia a week later.
