MFM Queens face stern Inter Clube test

CAIRO (Egypt) - Nigerian newbies MFM Queens find themselves between a rock and a hard place as they prepare to take on giants InterClube from Angola on Sunday at the FIBA Africa Women's Champions Cup 2019.

With one victory already in the bag, MFM Queens have made it clear that their aim is to better their win ratio to 2-0 and challenge for the title.

In Marvellous Chizi and Ifunaya Okoro, they have a duo that will trouble InterClube's high scoring pairing of Robyn Parks and Astou Traore on both ends of the court.

"IT IS OUR DEBUT PERFORMANCE IN THIS TOURNAMENT BUT WE ARE HERE TO COMPETE AND WILL GIVE EVERYTHING IN THIS GAME TO WIN IT. WE ARE READY TO BATTLE. "- Chizi

InterClube, who are eyeing their first title since 2016, want to take one game at a time and have made it clear that they want to make a few amends to the way they played their opener.

Speaking to FIBA.basketball, InterClube captain Rosemira Daniel said, "We are content with the way we played our first game but we have to improve. We have to play better defense and continue working together as a team so that we win. Our next game is tough but we want to win."

MFM Queens will have to find a solution in the paint as the pairing of Angelina Golome and Nadir Manuel combined for 21 rebounds yesterday against hosts Sporting Alexandria.

"It is our debut performance in this tournament but we are here to compete and will give everything in this game to win it. We are ready to battle," explained MFM Queens guard Chizi.

Meanwhile, Congolese side INSS face a tall order when they take on the defending champions Ferroviario de Maputo in the second game of the day.

Can Koko Ade's side matchup against the Mozambican giants? After suffering a heavy defeat against Al Ahly in their opener, INSS are searching for their first victory at this competition.

Mariana Muadi, Ketia Mbelu and Mireille Tshiyoyo will be looking to replicate their performances from the Al Ahly game to stop the highly motivated Ferroviario de Maputo.

The Congolese will have to matchup and stop Ferroviario de Maputo captain Ingvild Macauro for she is the latter's core player. She is relentless and a workaholic who never gives up.

Today's two fixtures present an opportunity for the underdogs to stake their claim and intentions for the title.
