Congolese teams and Cameroon's FAP through to African Cups Final Rounds

KINSHASA - FIBA Africa Zone 4 representatives for the Final Rounds of the continental Clubs' Championships have been decided over the weekend in the Democratic Republic of Congo's capital Kinshasa.

Following the withdrawal of Gabon's AS Estuaire, and Equatorial Guinea sides Living Sport Academy and Los Angeles Basket, three teams battled for the two spots for the Final Round of the FIBA Africa Women's Champions Cup 2018.

And Cameroon's FAP came up too strong for both Congolese outfits ASB INSS and ASB Victoria.

FAP claimed a sixth-place finish at FIBA ACCW 2016

The Cameroonians defeated ASB INSS twice (67-44 and 57-50), and although they lost to AS Victoria (57-50), FAP closed the qualifier with a commanding 3-1 record thanks to a 68-61 triumph over AS Victoria on Day 2.

Both FAP (3-1) and ASB INSS (2-2) became the latest teams to qualify for the FIBA Africa Women's Champions Cup 2018 to be held from 16-25 November in Maputo, Mozambique.

So far teams qualified for the Maputo showdown include hosts Ferroviario de Maputo, Angola's duo of Primeiro D'Agosto and five-time ACCW winners InterClube de Luanda, both KPA and Equity Hawks from Kenya, Zimbabwe's Lakers, FAP and INSS.

Meanwhile, in the men's qualifiers, local sides ASB Mazembe and ASB Terreur shared one win apiece and following the withdrawal of Equatorial Guinea teams San Antonio and Jet 7 Nguema, they secured the two spots on offer for Zone 4 for the inaugural FIBA AfroLeague which will take place from January 11 - April 21, 2019.
