CAIRO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Cairo International Airport: CAI - ICAO code: HECA is an international airport located near Cairo, 22 kilometers northeast of the city center, in the Heliopolis district. It is one of the busiest airports in the Arab world and Africa.

The airport is administered by the Egyptian Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation (EHCAAN), which controls four companies: Cairo Airport Company, Egyptian Airports Company, National Air Navigation Services and Aviation Information Technology and the Cairo Airport Authority (CAA).

More than 65 airlines use Cairo airport (including charter airlines), as well as 9 cargo lines. EgyptAir is the airport's biggest airline, accounting for 61% of departures in 2009. Its entry into the Star Alliance in July 2008 means that the airport is poised to become a major hub, thanks to its position between Europe, Africa and the Middle East (especially with the possible arrival of the Airbus A380).
