Road to BAL Season 3 set to get underway in Yaounde

 

YAOUNDE (Cameroon) - The FIBA-run Road to BAL has become one of the highlights of FIBA Africa's annual calendar, and it's set to set to get underway on Wednesday with four teams doing battle in Group B.

The Cameroonian capital city of Yaounde has been chosen as the starting point for this year's Road to BAL, which will see three other groups (A, C and D) competing  across three African cities over the next few weeks.

From Wednesday, October 12, through to Thursday, October 14, AS Vita (DR Congo), Nueva Era Basket Club (Equatorial Guinea), Espoir Basket Club (Gabon) and Bangui Sporting Club  (Central African Republic) will become the first teams to trade blows for the first two tickets for the Elite 16 Round, which is billed for November in Abidjan (Cote d'Ivoire) and Cape Town (South Africa).

Group B for the Road to BAL will follow a round-robin system.

The other three groups will open their Road to BAL campaigns next week. 

Group A (Niamey, (NIGER) Oct 18-23): Elan Coton BBC (Benin Republic), Abidjan Basketball Club (Cote d'Ivoire), Reformers BBC (Ghana), A.S Nigelec (Niger), Stade Malien (Mali). 

Group C (Oct 25-30): Urunani BBC (Burundi), Hawassa City BBC (Ethiopia), City Oilers (Uganda), Army Basket Club (Tanzania), Matero Magic (Zambia). *The host city will be announced soon.

Group D (Antananarivo, (MADAGASCAR) Oct 18-23): Djabal Basket (Comoros Islands), COSPN (Madagascar), Kenya Ports Authority (Kenya), Foxes Basketball Club (Zimbabwe), Dekkedda (Somalia) and Roches-Bois Warriors (Mauritius).

Day One of the match up at the Yaounde Multipurpose Palaise des Sport will see AS VITA going up against Nueva Era BBC while Bangui Sporting Club take on Espoir Basket Club of Gabon.

This is the third edition of Road to BAL since the Basketball Africa League's inception two years ago. 

FIBA
