Elly Randriamampionona power GNBC through to next stage

ANTANANARIVO (Madgascar) – Gerdarmerie Nationale Basketball Club(GNBC) clinched the last ticket available for Group F teams in the Road to Basketball Africa League Qualifying Tournament thanks to a comprehensive 86-63 win over Cobra Sports.

With a nice run from Elly Randriamampionona, who settled for no less than 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists, the Malagasy side delighted their home fans who came in numbers for support.

And it seems that coach Aina Ranaivosoa’s men played for public delight as they dominated their opponents from the beginning to the end of this do-or-die encounter.

They south sudanese tried by all means to undo their lead, but things were easier said than done.

"It was not such a difficult game. They gave us a good run, but we were disciplined and had it all from the go," Randriamampionona told FIBA.basketball in an exclusive post-match interview.

They strode confidently on the court, and made winning look very easy. "We had our toughest game against KPA. Nothing seemed to work that day, but we came back and put all the pieces together to grab this most wanted victory," the 22-year-old added.



As tough opponents await them for the next round, GNBC  will be looking forward to making history in the next round of the Basketball Africa League Qualifying Tournament. "We are heading there with a new mindset. We know things will not be easy. But we will be stepping on the court with confidence and we will try to make the most of our trip."

Earlier, Kenya Port Authority easily took the better of Usoni BC 121-74 as they added another win to their tablets.

As result the Kenyans closed their Road to BAL campaign in Group with a 4-0 mark and emerged as group leadrers.

Job Ayodi did a fantastic job on the court with a double-double to his credits (24 points, 11 rebounds).
