Smouha SC and Petro Atletico advance to Elite 8

ANTANANARIVO (Madagascar) - After winning their Group D games on Saturday, Smouha Sporting Club and Petro Atletico de Luanda qualified for the Elite 8 knock out stage of the FIBA Africa Basketball League (ABL) 2019.

While Smouha SC trounced hosts Club Omnisports Police Nationale (COSPN) 119-50, Petro Atletico de Luanda saw off ASB Mazembe 74-61. 

Saturday marked the second straight wins for both Smouha SC and Petro Atletico de Luanda who will face off on Sunday - the last day of Group D's action.

Following Saturday's results, Egyptians and Angolans share the top of the group with four points each, although the Smouha SC register a better goal-differential.

With six Smouha SC players scoring 10 points or more, Ahmed Farag finished with a a game-high 19 points while his teammate Sherif El-Diasty dominated the painted area with a game-best 12 rebounds.

Moahamed Elkoussy became the first player in Group D to convert all his three-point attempts en route to a 13-point haul, while Ricky Razakaria and Guillaume Milisen lead COSP with nine points each.

Both Smouha SC and Petro Atletico join Group C's Al Alhy and Primeiro D'Agosto in the Elite 8 due next month.

Meanwhile Group D concludes Sunday with hosts COSPN facing DR Congo's ASB Mazembe while Smouha and Petro Atletico will do battle for the group winner.
