D'Agosto through to Elite 8 of FIBA Africa Basketball League 2019

CAIRO (Egypt) - Primeiro D'Agosto on Saturday became the first club to advance to the Elite 8 of the FIBA Africa Basketball League 2019.

The Angolan champions beat Rwanda Energy Group (REG) 70-64 to improve their Group C mark to 2-0 with a game left.

Led by Islando Manuel, D'Agosto needed to step up to get away from a stubborn and determined REG side who led 19-13 in the opening quarter.

The Angolans' triumph came on the back of Friday's 86-77 victory over hosts Al Ahly.

Emannuel Quezada - the other D'Agosto player to score in double figures - added 10 points while Rwandan international Olivier Shyaka led REG in scoring with 15 points. Kenneth Gasana added 9 points and Engelbert Beleck registered his second double-double (12 points and 10 rebounds) in the losing cause.

D'Agosto will face Mozambique's Ferroviario da Beira on Sunday in an attempt to stay perfect in the competition.

According to the FIBA Africa Basketball League, the clubs that finish in the top 2 from each group advance to the Elite 8, where clubs will be divided into four groups of 2 teams each.

The teams will play home-and-away games in the knock-out format.
And the four winners from Elite 8 advance to the FINAL 4 due to take place in May.
