Rokiatou Berthe, Jana Elalfy steal show for Mali, Egypt on Day 3

CAIRO (Egypt) - Rokiatou Berthe turned out to be the shining star of Day 3 of the FIBA U16 African Women Championship with her outstanding performance that saw her amassing a total of 35 points, one rebound, four assists in Mali's 104 -18 stand out win over Algeria.

In Mali's win against Gabon over the weekend, she had a game-high of 24 points,  and this time she raised the bar as Mali pushed closer to a Semi-Final spot after three wins from three games for a total of six points on the log.

Mariam Ibrahim Sarr followed closely with 22 points, 15 rebounds, seven assists.

Jana Elalfy proved too hot for Ugandan to handle when Egypt cruised to a 89-17 win in the second game of the day.

Elalfy recorded 21 points, eight rebounds, one assist to put Egypt in second place on the table.

For the 16-year old Elalfy, the Championship has been exciting. She told FIBA.basketball that she is having a good time.

"What you see of the team is a combined effort. It is my target and that of my team to win the trophy at the end of the Championship," she said.

The last game of the day witnessed Chad's 14-year old star Denise Naldjim Moise sinking 26 points, seven rebounds, seven assists in the team's first victory in the championship.

Chad defeated outplayed Gabon 84-29.

All the teams will on Tuesday observe a rest day.
