Egypt secure slot to FIBA U16 Women's African Championship 2017

MOMBASA (FIBA U16 Women’s African Championship 2017) – Egypt have earned a slot at the FIBA U16 Women’s African Championship 2017 set to be held in Mozambique from August 4 -12, after winning all their three games at the FIBA Africa Zone 5 qualifiers.

Egypt cruised to a comfortable victory over hosts Kenya 92-26 in their opening game before seeing off Rwanda 71-34 to put one step into the qualification brackets.

An 84-17 win over Tanzania sealed a place at the Mozambique showpiece for Egypt who will represent Zone 5 at the biennial continental competition.

Rwanda settled for silver with two wins over Kenya 64-32 and Tanzania 77-25 despite losing to Egypt 71-34. Hosts Kenya finished at Third-Place and Tanzania were fourth.

Egypt will be looking to put up a better performance than what they did in 2009, 2011 and 2013 where they reached the final falling to Mali on all three occasions.  Mali are the most decorated nation in this competition with four trophies in as many editions.

The winner and the runners-up of the Mozambique showpiece will punch their tickets for the FIBA U17 Women’s Baskletball World Cup 2018.
