Egypt and Mali in re-match for title

PHOENIX(FIBA U16 African Championship ) – Egypt and Mali will face off on Saturday in the title game as both saw off Tunisia and Algeria respectively 86-45 and 72-62 on Friday night in Phoenix, Mauritius.

This is the rematch of the 2015 edition where Mali suffered a 64-63 loss on home soil.

Egypt can be said to be very lucky. They had an easy run at it, neutralizing Tunisia from the start, and never letting their opponent reach their side during the game. They were at ease in the game, and clinched their victory 86-45, with coach Fady Hany even allowing some bench players in.

The Pharaos are only a match away to winning their second title in a row and homing in four FIBA Africa U16 trophies.

On their part, Mali, secured a 72-62 victory over Algeria, who have given them a good run for their money.

Mali’s Siriman Kanoute who led all the players in scoring (19points) and his teammate Oumar Ballo, who grabbed the game-high rebounds(19rbs) were the game’s top performers.

They, however, had a little fright in the last minutes of the game when Algeria beat them on the score (27-20).

But this was not enough to prevent them for the win as they already had a 10-point lead.

Earlier in the day, Rwanda blew out Mozambique 67-33 in the first Classification Games (5-8 Places).

Rwanda’s Thierry Nkundwa topped the scoreboard with 22 points and 15 rebounds on his own, securing his side an interesting victory.

Madagascar, on the other side, had a real go at Mauritius. Sitraka Raharimanantoanina and his teammates clinched the largest victory of the day over host nation (113-25), and will battle again against Rwanda on Saturday for the fifth place.
